Upgrading RacKMS and PDU firmware

Use this procedure to upgrade the RacKMS gateway and the in-line PDU firmware to version 2.06.06, using the UTLTFTPclient1.2.4 application.

About this task

You can perform this upgrade from any firmware revision, starting with version 1.11.11.

Before you begin

  • If you are performing this upgrade on a live system, the communication between the PDU and IPI appliance should be turned off. Do this in the GUI interface on the IPI appliance, or unplug the communication port at the PDU. When the upgrade is complete, reboot the IPI appliance. Either allow the IPI applicance to reconnect the PDU through the GUI interface, or plug in the communication cable to the PDUs.
  • It is recommended that you backup the IPI appliance configuration before you perform the upgrade. Backups can only be done for firmware revisions 2.04.04 and above.
Note: If available, use the Panduit Bulk Configuration Utilities tool to save the IPI appliance configuration. You can also use this tool to perform the firmware upgrade.
  • The following files are included with the UTLTFTPclient1.2.4 application and are required for this procedure:
    • UTLTFTPclient1.2.4.exe – the Windows executable for downloading and uploading to the gateway (RacKMN, Hawk or Eagle)
    • Gen3_boot_8.01.01.bin – the binary image of the bootloader firmware for the gateway
    • Gen3_app_8.01.01.bin – the binary image of the gateway application firmware
    • PDU21_611File.pdu – the binary image of the PDU application

Setting up the gateway and PDU

  1. Connect a PC to the gateway, either directly with a cross over cable, or using a hub/switch. It is recommended that no other devices are connected to this network.
  2. Connect the PDU control to any of the Power port connections on the gateway (only if upgrading a PDU).
  3. Power on the gateway.
  4. Execute the UTLTFTPclient1.2.4 application.
  5. Set the IP address for the target gateway. The factory default is 192.168.0.253.
  6. Send a ping command to confirm connectivity.
